About Us

The Hollycroft Veterinary Centre is based on Roston Drive in Hinckley, and is easily commutable for customers in Nuneaton, Burbage, Wykin, Barwell, Earl Shilton and the surrounding areas. From here we provide a broad spectrum of vet services, including:

Behaviour Counseling – We work closely with a fully-qualified canine behaviour counsellor, who can advice on complicated behaviour patterns on a one-to-one basis following a referral from one of our vets staff. Problems dealt with include aggression, destructive behaviour, anxiety and general poor behaviour.

Referrals – We can, where necessary, refer complex cases to the appropriate specialist - this will be discussed and arranged on an individual case basis. We have built up good relationships with Cambridge and London Veterinary Schools, the Animal Health Trust in New Market and orthopedic, ophthalmic and cardiac specialists based in Birmingham and Warwickshire.

Micro chipping – Our vets can perform micro chipping at the practice – a service that comes highly recommended. This provides permanent identification to minimise the heartache caused by a lost or wandering pet. Obesity Clinics – If you feel that your pet is overweight then our health counsellor can provide advice on the most appropriate exercise regime and dietary requirements for your pet.

Grooming – Our dog groomer is able to perform the whole range of grooming duties for all breeds of dog, to the highest standards. This includes breed specific and general clipping, scissoring and trimming, hand stripping and general bathing and grooming.

The Centre’s two partners are both registered Official Veterinary Surgeons (OVS) for the Department of Environment, Fisheries and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). They are permitted to deal with the import and export of your pets as well as dealing with the paperwork to issue Pet Travel Schemes (PETS) passports, which allows travel to and from Europe without the need for quarantine.

Our Practice Facilities

General:

Waiting Room – Our waiting room is spacious and airy, and contains a wealth of informative advice and literature. Complimentary coffee and mineral water is available to make any wait as stress-free as possible. Shop – Our shop is stocked with a wide array of quality pet care merchandise. We also sell a selection of premium foodstuffs for cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs.

Consulting Rooms – We have three large consulting rooms that are large, bright and airy. They are designed to ensure that any examinations and treatments are performed in an environment that causes as little stress to your pet as possible. Two of the rooms are equipped with standard examination instruments and linked via computer to the rest of the building, which facilitates instant record retrieval. The third room is used by our veterinary nurses and behavioural counsellor.

Kenneling – We have five large walk-in kennels that are centrally heated, insulated and tiled - additional warmth is provided by infra-red heat lamps where necessary, to ensure the most comfortable of environments for your pet.

Our second kennel room is for smaller animals; dogs, cats, rabbits and other pets. It consists of stainless steel, to allow thorough cleaning and disinfections between patients. We also have intensive care facilities to allow close monitoring of critical care patients, with an oxygenated kennel facility offering temperature and humidity control.

Treatment:

Anaesthesia – Many vet procedures require a general anaesthetic, and at Hollycroft we use only the safest anaesthetic agents. We perform blood tests prior to anaesthesia, before carefully administering the anaesthetic agent and oxygen. We also have resuscitation facilities, all of which are regularly tested and inspected. All of our patients are carefully monitored during anaesthesia and recovery using digital pulse oximetry, to ensure oxygen levels are well-maintained.

Dentistry – We are well equipped to perform all required dental treatments in all species, including teeth extractions, ultra-sonic scaling and polishing and drilling & suction, as well as oral showering during and after care.

Operating Theatres – Our operating theatre is comprehensively-equipped, including access to both injectable and gaseous anaesthetics and specialist equipment. Our most common operations are neutering (both spays and castration), orthopedic surgery, abdominal surgery and lump removal.

Our vets can also perform complex surgery; exploratory surgery, tissue biopsies and internal tumour removal etc, as well as less complicated procedures such as cyst and wart removal.

Diagnostic:

In-House Laboratory – We have access to our own vet test biochemistry, electrolyte and haematology analyser, which checks and monitors many bodily functions. We are also able to analyse urine, perform hair and skin microscopy and screening for both Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) at the practice. Results can often be available in minutes, which enables rapid commencement of the necessary treatment. We use an outside laboratory for more complex cases with results normally available in a few days.

Imaging Suite – We have a dedicated room for taking diagnostic x-rays, with results normally available on the same day.

Electro-Cardiography (ECG) – We have a digital, computer compatible ECG machine for checking heart rate and rhythm and electrical activity for the diagnosis and monitoring of certain heart diseases.

Fibre-Optic Endoscopies – This piece of equipment enables us to visualise the upper and lower airways, as well as examining the back of the nose, larynx, trachea and smaller airways. The obtaining of samples or biopsies can be very helpful in the diagnosis of respiratory and chest illnesses.

Blood Pressure Testing – We have Doppler blood pressure testing equipment to measure blood pressure in cats and dogs. Blood testing also facilitates the early detection of disease, which is crucial in preventing and controlling potentially dangerous diseases.
